Every Drop Counts!

Here are some more facts and tactics brought to you by the Waterworks:

Save Water, Save Money

The average household spends as much as $500 per year on its water and sewage bill. By making just a few simple changes to use water more efficiently, you could save about $170 per year. If all U.S. households installed water-efficient appliances and fixed all leaky faucets and toilets the country would save more than 3 trillion gallons of water and more than $18 billion dollars per year!

Waterworks Challenge

Did you know than an American home can waste, on average, more than 10,000 gallons of water every year due to running toilets, dripping faucets and other household leaks? The Waterworks challenges you to conserve water and save MONEY!

The Waterworks Challenge!

Challenge: Leaky faucets that drip at the rate of one drip per second can waste more than 3,000 gallons of water each year.

Solution: If you're unsure whether you have a leak, place a paper towel in the basin area for about a two-hour period when no water is being used. When you return and find the towel wet, you probably have a leak.

Challenge: A leaky toilet can waste about 200 gallons of water every day.

Solution: To tell if your toilet has a leak, place a drop of food coloring in the tank; wait up to 30 minutes; if the color shows in the bowl without flushing, you have a leak.

Challenge: The average bathroom/kitchen faucet flows at a rate of two gallons per minute.

Solution: By turning the water off while brushing your teeth or soaping the dishes you can save up to 8 gallons of water per day, per faucet, which equals 240 gallons a month per faucet!
